The worst thing about being in the fifth year of school was that Karen wouldn’t have much to go down to the kitchen late at night anymore. In a few shortyears she would have to start buying her own food and taking on all the responsibilities that being an adult in the magical community entailed. It was eye opening and very stressful to think about. She would have to get her own place, get a job, and still find time to follow her dreams. The overwhelming sensation that seemed to follow her around came back as she walked past the Hufflepuff common room towards the kitchens. Comfort food was in order for tonight and it was never too late to bake cookies anyone who said that had never had a chocolate chip cookie at midnight before.
The kitchen was normally vacant at this time of night and as Karen rounded a corner and walked through the doorway she found it was as normal in the large room. House elves were busy doing their preparations for the morning and as always Karen made sure to stay out of their way and thank them for their offers of help but she always kindly rejected them. They had better things to do that help her make a couple dozen cookies, that was something she was perfectly capable of doing on her own.
Karen had been down in the kitchens plenty of times that she knew where all the ingredients were by now. Butter, flour, two different kinds of sugar, chocolate chips, and a few other ingredients would make for the perfect cookies. It seemed that there was always an endless supply of everything she needed but Karen’s blonde hair got the best of her and she always managed to misplace the vanilla. Being short didn’t ever help the Ravenclaw either and she found herself standing on the counter digging through the higher cabinets. “Why does this always happen to me?” She mumbled to herself and she continued searched through the cabinets. She could ask the house elves for help but they had too many things to do before breakfast.
